Vision Night Follow Up
Posted by Jeff Lockyer on Tuesday, 23 February 2010
This past Sunday was an amazing day for our church family! In the morning, we gathered across the region to learn how to express love through genuine patience and kindness. Then in the evening we came together as one church for a special event. Not only did we unite as affirmed members for our Annual General Meeting (the materials of which you can pick up at the Welcome Centre at any location) and enjoyed the Olympic hockey game on the big screen, but we worshiped and celebrated Vision Night⎯something that is becoming an annual tradition of sorts to reflect, encourage and inspire us to go for it with God together.
We learned that from God’s perspective, 2010 at Southridge has less to do with becoming more (i.e. launching more locations) and much more to do with now being what we’ve become as a multi-site, multi-anchor-cause-championing restorative movement for Christ across the Niagara Region. And we acknowledged that in addition to going deeper in fulfilling our strategic plan’s ‘5 Heartbeats for the Future’ (now entering Year 2; for more about the heartbeats, see our 2009 Mid-Year Report), there are 5 primary challenges facing each of us at a personal level:
- To go deeper in our prayer reliance⎯building Christ’s church in the supernatural power that only He can provide
- To go deeper in our understanding of discipleship⎯growing beyond the need to be fed by others and developing the capacity to spiritually feed ourselves
- To go deeper in our financial faithfulness⎯claiming the dare of God to abundantly bless those who consistently practice the discipline of tithing
- To go deeper in our trust of each others’ motives⎯believing the best in one another as we keep short accounts on misunderstandings
- To go deeper in our gratitude for what God has invited us into⎯choosing to appreciate the immensity of God’s love that has included us on His team to win trophies of His grace in our community
As we process where God is leading us together, I’d love to hear your reactions to the event. What did God specifically say to you? What are you most excited about when you look ahead at 2010 for Southridge? What challenge are you taking most seriously?
Let’s hear some banter… How was ‘Vision Night’ for you?

- Hey Jeff: So thrilled to have an opportunity to encourage you. For me, it was a "God-thing" that I was able to be there @ Vision night! The Vision that you presented was so inspiring to me and it was powerful to realize that the Spirit of God used the whole night to take me to some "next-steps" for my future @ Southridge. I can't say what a privilege it is to sit under the gracious leadership of church that so desires to seek Him and dig deep to the things that matter.

- This was my first Southridge Vision night and easily one of the most inspiring couple of hours spent at church, ever. I have only two regrets; one, that I didn't bring my whole family and two, that these evenings only happen once a year. The music was dynamic & uplifting. The goal setting was specific, honest and to my mind, right on target for what the church of Jesus Christ needs to be at. Thanks everyone.

- I think Vision Night was powerfull. The Espirit of God is moving and doing great things in our community. What challenge me the most is trusting each other. I hope It can be a reallity for each one of us and in that way we all can grow in the knowledge of God and His amazing plan for each one of us, for our commnunity and for all humanity.

- It certainly was an inspiring evening, Thank-you Jeff and the whole leadership team. It is good to hear these words of wisdom and be kept inspired for the Vision of the church. God can do amazing things through his people when they are all going for gold together i.e. sharing the same vision.
Commenting is not available in this weblog entry.I thought Vision Night was awesome. So much positive energy in our worship.
Your presentation of Southridge's 5 heartbeats was excellent. I can't even pick which one was the most inspiring. You certainly have given us enough food for thought to last a whole year!

Is the "presentation" going to be available as a Podcast? I appreciate the availability of the messages in this format and have missed the last few.
Thanks again. I pray that God will continue to Bless the work he has begun here.
