Whether you’ve grown up in the church, or just peer in on it from the outside, if you had one prayer to pray for the Church, one thing you’d love to change, what would it be? On the night before Jesus died, he prayed a prayer for his Church that he believed would change them and the world: Father, make them one. This month, in answer to Jesus’ prayer, churches from around the world are uniting with each other in a global event called “One Prayer”, standing together to ask God to transform the Church to change the world. Join us June 8 – 29 to find discover what can happen when Christians unite together to pray this “One Prayer” for the Church!
June 8, 2008 – Lord, Make Us…LOUD! (James 2:14-18)
Throughout history, Christians have been making statements to society. These days though, it seems that society isn’t all that interested in hearing the statements that we are making. Why is that? Is there something wrong with what the Church is saying or are we making these statements in ways that make it hard for people to hear? What would it look like if the church was sending messages to our world – really making a statement in our culture – that were impossible to ignore. What if God answered the one prayer: Make us LOUD?
June 15, 2008 – Lord, Make Us…One (John 17:20-24)
It was Jesus himself who said it best: a house divided against itself cannot stand. You’ve seen the power of this truth. When husbands and wives are divided, marriages fall apart. When moms and dads are divided, families fall apart. When supervisors and managers are divided, entire companies fall apart. What about within the Church? What happens to God’s Church when we give up on unity with each other? What could happen to God’s Church, around the world, if God would answer the one prayer: Make Us One?
June 22, 2008 – Lord, Make Us…Wise
If you’ve been around our church, you’ve heard the stats: 85% of people surveyed know a committed Christian but only 15% have noticed any significant difference in their character or lifestyle; 87% of those outside the church feel Christians are judgmental, 85% say we’re hypocritical, 70% say we’re insensitive. How do we, as a church, turn these numbers around? How do we start to make better choices in the way that we live? What would it look like for God to answer the one prayer: Make us wise?
June 29, 2008 – Lord, Make Us…Dangerous (Luke 7:11-17)
What is the single most important thing a church could do, or be, in order to truly become the church as God originally dreamed it would be? How will the church become a potent force for good in the world? With relevant, innovative worship and teaching? By becoming an inclusive, growing community? By focusing on outreach and justice? What should be the church’s greatest passion, its singular obsession, if God is to truly answer the one prayer: Make us dangerous?
