Easter, 2009 – Broken and Beautiful
We live in a jagged world, where serrated edges of ruthless reality rip through our lives; a global economic crisis, soldiers bodies driving the highway of heroes, gangland violence in suburban Vancouver, crippling poverty, divorce, addiction, loneliness. At the same time, for those with eyes to see, our world confronts us daily with unconquerable rightness; the soaring Rockies and the crashing ocean, the birth of a baby, a first kiss, truly heroic humanity expressed in justice, generosity, embrace, togetherness. What’s going on in our world? Why is such devastating brokenness allowed to deface such breath-taking beauty? How do these moments of such awe-inspiring beauty rise out of the wreckage of such tear-stained brokenness? Where’s the sense in it? What’s the Story? Where is God in a world as broken and beautiful as ours?

Aug 16, 2009 – God’s Business Plan
The best-laid schemes of mice and men…” Never before has this proverb been so relevant to our world. Business plans cooked up in the penthouse offices of Wall Street executives have spun the world into economic chaos and injustice. Scripture tells us that God also has a business plan for our world: one that creates peace not chaos, equality not injustice, is absolutely recession proof and will fundamentally change your life. What is God’s business plan and how can we get in on it?
Aug 30, 2009 – Blankie
Virtually every toddler has one. For some it’s a soother or a thumb, for others a stuffed animal or a favourite toy, for many it’s a blanket. Whatever the form, most toddlers have something that they do, or carry, for security, to feel safe, for comfort and confidence to face a big, scary world. Many of us never outgrow the habit, clinging to work, money, relationships, or other things for security in life. Is this enough to get us through life? Or is it possible that we can we find true security in something bigger?
Dec 20 – 24, 2009 – What are you waiting for?
This is no ordinary love story…
Christmas is just around the corner, you can feel the anticipation all around. It’s in the way our neighbourhoods are magically transformed into a winter wonderland by snow and lights, the excitement of festively wrapped gifts, the childish traditions, mouth-watering foods, or the special times shared with family and friends. It’s time to embrace the spirit of Christmas. What are you waiting for?
