It was not for nothing that Christopher Hitchens’ recent attack on religion was titled, “God is not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything.” In recent years, between 9/11 (and its violent aftermath), pedophilia in the Church, and the phrase “God Hates Fags,” the new millennium seems to be unfolding as just another chapter of religious violence in our world, where people in Belfast, Beirut, Bombay, Belgrade, Bethlehem and Baghdad are dying because of religion. Is Hitchens right? Is religion really evil?
